alabama secretary of state website to get here you go to sos.alabama.gov sos.alabama.gov this will take you to the alabama secretary of state website this is how you file llcs llcs get filed with the state eins get filed with the federal government we're not going to talk about eins in this video we're simply going to be talking about llc's so let me show you how to get started first things first you need to make sure that your name isn't taken so you need to go over to services business entities and then you need to go to online services and then we're going to go over here down to business entity and name search this is important because names are state specific and you can't have the same name as somebody in the same state you can have the same name as somebody who's in florida if you're applying in alabama but not in the same state so let me show you what it means to search to see if your name is taken so what you want to do is you want to search the business entity name it's going to pop open a new tab and it's going to give you some records that you can input so you can search by name by type of entity by place by city et cetera but what we're going to do is we're going to search for joe's plumbing llc just like this who knows we get results back and it shows us that there's an entity id for an llc already established as joe's plumbing in the state so it exists so we can't use joe's plumbing let's try joseph's plumbing no match is found okay so you can be joseph's plumbing llc but you can't be joe's plumbing llc that's how you find out if your name is taken with the secretary of state so now that we know we're going to go back to the very beginning where we were at the website we know our name's available so let's use that name to apply for an llc we're going to use joe's plumbing so go over here to services and go down to business entities and then online services we do not want to submit all this information by mail because it's way too slow we want to fill this out online we've already done the name search so let's go all the way down here to domestic business filing domestic means that you're there present in the state so that's the option that we want to use domestic business filing click on it we're going to go to domestic formation we're not going to dissolve a company that's what dissolution's for we're going to form one let's click on that boom here we go it gives us all the fees and lets us know how much it's going to cost for what so we can reserve our name if we're not ready to file the llc yet you can just reserve the name by paying this 25 here but if you are ready you can do a domestic filing and so you can see the total fees are about 208 dollars to form an llc on your own now if you're a foreign person and you don't live in alabama or you live outside the united states and you want to file for an llc within alabama you would choose the foreign filing option one more thing to add they have subscribers and non-subscribers that just means if you whether or not you have an account on this website we can go with a non-subscriber and we can just go forward for there so now we're going to put in all of our contact info and correctly to start building business credit and during that process i assist them with getting their llc and ein number and there is not a lot of information available to actually show you or show people how to form their llc's i know it may sound complicated and you know you may be scared to do it but i want to actually show you how to get your llc's set up in alabama for single members for a single member that means one person that's setting up an llc i'm not going to go into detail on when you need an llc if you need an llc the difference between llc's and other type of corporations i'm that you'll want to do you can simply go to google and you can type in secretary of state state of alabama once you do that it should pop up it should be the very first link it should be www.sos.alabama.gov you're going to click on that and you're going to go to the home page once you get to the alabama secretary of state's home page you're going to go over to services or you're going to go to the menu and go to services because you may be doing this on your phone um go down to business entities and go over to online services i'm going to click on online services under business entities once you get here the first thing that i like to do is to search for the business entity name to make sure that it is available okay so you're going to click there and once you get here you see you under the business entity search options simply click entity name and you're just whatever the business name is that you have come up with you're going to type it here in name when you are setting up a single member llc and you are naming it llc has to be a part of your business name we'll get into that in more detail when we start um the application but just remember that llc will have to be included in your business name so let's search i'm going to say my business the business i'm starting is called my my business name i'm going to hit search so you're going to type in your business name there and if it says no matches file that means it is available i want you to see what it looks like when you type it in and somebody else already has it so i'm just going to type in my business name the credit leverage i'm just going to type in the credit lab and if you come down here you can see say that um well the credit laboratory llc it does exist here um so that name that name wouldn't be available so i would have to go back to new search and search again okay but since we already know that our business name is available now we're going to move on to the next step go back to services go down to business entities and go over to online services once you get back there you're gonna go to the name reservation menu you have to reserve your name your name has to be reserved when you're doing your llc and since i'm thinking that if this is your first time on here you have not already reserved a name so we're gonna just start here with name reservations and if you see here the prices come up it says welcome to the secretary of state serve online services application says your documents will be available for download for 15 days because you can print your documents out once you are done for your name reservation it costs that's the cost 25 28 for none subscribers you can see here for the domestic filings it's going to be 100 county fee 100 for the secretary of state and if this is your first time creating your llc in the state of alabama it's going to be a domestic filing for foreign violence let's say me with my business the credit laboratory we are establishing the state of alabama say if i wanted to go to mississippi and start doing business there i would set up a foreign filing in the state of mississippi for my llc to register there because it's already a domestic filing in alabama so but you this is going to be your first one so your domestic filing fees will be 208 so you will be paying 208 and 28 to get your llc you go on over to continue my application here you're going to put your contact name in you're going to put your phone number in whatever your phone number is next number is optional you're going to put your email address in if you are a business you should have a professional um email address and when i say professional you see how my ending domain is my website address instead of gmail yahoo icloud or something like that so you'll be you need a business address best to have a professional email address if you if you're opening up if you have a business you should have a business email address along with your website because you should have a website as well okay go ahead and enter your address it's a good thing to you guys to have a business address if not you will be using your personal um mailing address here and that will be the address that you need to put on all of your documents including your ein numbering your bank statements or or your banking account um you're going to want to use the same mailing address and it's not good to use a po box if you're going to be building business credit so that's all i'm going to say about that but you just want to enter your mailing address here and um your zip code here after you get that information in click continue email address must be enter example i thought i entered an email address example oh i didn't feel it i didn't finish it there sorry i didn't put dot com you guys okay the name that you requested well the name that you know that you're gonna get your new name that's available it's gonna be my business name llc with my business name okay type of reservation remember it's going to be domestic see here what i told you about it for me said entity in the state of alabama this one's here you can see to do business in the state of lm4 a
