banking acronyms might seem confusing but understanding what these strings of letters mean can help you bank more confidently and build your financial literacy in this video we'll learn about two of the most common ones swift and big codes and where to find them let's jump in when you're sending money abroad you may need to make sure it gets to the right place that's where a swift code comes in what is a swift code swift stands for society for worldwide interbank financial telecommunication a mouthful right this organization is responsible for making transfers between banking institutions easier a swift code helps to identify your bank the country is located in and may include other information about a bank's department unit or branch since each bank has their own swift code these codes make sure your money ends up in the right place most banks and transfer services ask for a swift code to complete an international wire transfer so it's good to know your bank swift code we'll explain where you can find it later in the video you may have heard swift and big being used at the same time or even interchangeably that's because they are actually one in the same bic which stands for business identifier code refers to the actual series of numbers and letters while swift refers to the organization that regulates these codes swift is in charge of registering bigs which is why they become synonymous so whether it's labeled swift or big just know that's the code you need to ensure your money gets to the right place you can find your swift or big code on your bank statements they are either 8 or 11 characters and are a mixture of numbers and letters they'll look something a little bit like this what's the format of a swift or big code between 8 and 11 characters long every swift or big code digits provides information about the bank where the account is held the first four characters provide the name of the bank which could be the initial or an abbreviation and the next two are the country code that [ __ ] belongs to finally the branch identifier some swift big codes include an additional three digit that identifies the branch location make sure not to confuse your swift code with your iban or international bank account number they are often found in the same places but in ibn is much longer so look for the shortest series of characters when searching for the swift code n26 uses wise instead of swift so if you need to make a foreign money transfer you can use the wise app a website if you do need a big though n26's code lives under my account on the app or website so there you have it hopefully not as confusing as you first thought despite how unapproachable acronyms like swift and big can feel they are there to make banking easier and smoother than it would be otherwise and they're helping us save our breath while we save our money if you want to learn more check out the video description and subscribe to the end 26 youtube channel to see more videos that make banking and managing your money easier you
Thanks zenichkak your participation is very much appreciated
