hello there everybody welcome to this week's edition of the verdict and we are going to concentrate solely on irish champions weekend day one at leopard stand day two at the current there were six group ones in total we will have a look at five of them we will just stew one of the group ones and that's the matron stakes one by pearls galore but i can tell you what happened in that she made all and she got an easy lead out in front the course track sectionals tell us as did jadumi when he won the boomerang mile so let's have a look at the winners then fall leopard stan on the saturday and these winners should be seen through the prison of quite testing ground uh it was quite sticky the jockeys were reporting and the times were quite slow zorinsk making all to win the opening contest i'm a gambler was always prominent august rodan taking the kpmg champion juvenile duke decessor stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time on the 310 for the informed dermot world luxembourg taking the feature champions stakes then jedu me and pearls galore both making all and then mercana winning the last so three horses on the card made every yard of the running and a couple of the winners were always handy as well so it clearly was important to be close to the pace by and large i'm going to have a look at the champion juvenile august wrote down 240 the 11 to 10 favorite and the tower of london was second in it to two to one stable companion serious challenge six to one twelve's older and caroline street the only philly in the race was the outsider 18 to one having touched 22-1 so let's have a look at what happened out there the august rodan beating caroline street with alder back in third place orchestra dan coming out of the widest stall stool five caroline street jumped from two and third home was order from stall four so this is how this race unfolded um once again mention the conditions they were quite testing i think jockeys were wary of that and the slow conditions meant we had a quite a slow final time really of one minute 45.2 and you can see that early on they're going quite steadily august drove down in here he's a little bit keen under ryan moore ryan's trying to get him some cover and get him settled from that wide draw he was just doing a little bit much in ryan's hands eventually he does get him to settle but the first three furlongs were quite steady according to the course track sectionals but then they picked up once they turned for home the finishing speed percentage overall is not too bad it's 103 so they have finished off the race three percent quicker than they ran the early part of it so it was probably overall an evenly run race despite those slow couple of early furlongs augusto down seeing the trip out very well indeed and he is now favorite for the derby round about the seven to one mark with the firms but he's not particularly impressive here for me and i think there's a reason for that i just think he hated the ground his pedigree screams fast ground he's by deep impact now they generally want to hear their hooves rattle and he's out of the three times group one winning mayor rhodey dendron and she wanted decent ground although she did act with a bit of cut and i think he'll be an awful lot better this fellow when he gets better ground here he is about to launch from the outside under ryan moore just go and run his stable companion down and finish off his race quite strongly as evidenced by that finishing speed percentage now in behind we've got a bit of an eye catcher really the outsider of the lot caroline street in here traveling up really strongly and a good look at the course track sectionals will tell you that she ran faster than the winner through four of the last five furlongs that she did so from a position where she was disadvantaged she just had too much to do basically and august drove down stayed on too strongly for her pricking his ears flicking them backwards and forwards in the closing stages but that was a big run from the outside of that philly has got group races in her for sure she's run a huge race forced wide and she had quite a lot to do she just couldn't get past august rodan who did what he had to do he wasn't particularly impressive he didn't show a wild turn of foot according to the course track sections he just boxed on he was strong through the final furlong fastest of this quintet through the final furlong he's going to stay further there's no doubt about that and it's my honest opinion that when he gets better ground you're going to see a much better cult he's learning on the job all the time he was a bit green under rymore drifting to his right in the closing stages that's why ryan was quite forceful with his whip in his right hand he drifted across the track some horses can do that remember some mark's basilica here last year they can do it at this track but i think there's more to come from him i like the philly she's just lugging in a bit in the closing stages there's a group race in her and august throw down while seven to one seems a bit skinny for the derby at this stage he's open to no end of improvement and we might see that either in the dewhurst or the virgin futurity aiden o'brien yet to make his decision the big race of the weekend was the irish champions takes itself a group one over a mile and a quarter and this is how they bet for it for dany the coral eclipse winner seven to four the mishrif the globetrotter seven to two luxembourg on the comeback trail seven to two allen kerr eight to one bit of money for that ernesto eleven to one broom twelves and twenty eight to one stone age and it was luxembourg who got himself firmly back on track by landing this frayed o'brien and ryan moore and doing it really well coming from stall number six he beat ernesto who jumped from stall four and vidani from stall two watch the passage for dany gets through this race and ask yourself whether you think verdana would have won if things had dropped a little bit more kindly for him through the race personally i don't think he would have done i'm a big fan of luxembourg and when he won the royal whip albeit very narrowly from insinuendo at the current when he came back off a long layoff and many people wrote him off but here on the verdict we were pretty keen on what he did because he was held up in a race that was steadily run and he did really well to get himself to the front that day and his sectionals through two of the furlongs at the current were impressive and he has improved a ton from that run to win this in good style i think now his stable companion took them along stone age out in front ahead of broome so the edna brian team dictating what happened out there ryan moore sat with a little bit of cover in fourth place on luxembourg going quite nicely with in behind him other principles in the market the green cap christoph simeon on verdani and there's mishrif and colin keane out the back now colin keen took mishrift back i've watched this race a few times and wondered whether yet again he'd missed the break but he didn't colin took him back and wanted to ride him patiently and i
