by but we had a court hearing today in the superior court and uh we fully anticipate the videos of the body cameras of the police officers that that would be released soon I want to say today but it will be released soon uh that has been established in addition to that we have filed a federal complaint today uh outlining what we feel are claims that are meritorious on behalf of Miss Dunlap I will leave that to my colleague Harry Daniels to speak uh and explain that aspect of the case oh good afternoon uh like you said I'm Harry Daniels uh first of all thank you for being here today it's a beautiful day here in Fayetteville North Carolina uh today this morning we filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Mr a lot of Dunlap against the city of Fayetteville uh officer Ryan haddock uh to check if Amanda bill John and Jane those uh one through a hundred those officers that was on the scene that we are not aware of their names at this time and we'll be fully aware of their names once we get the video recorded since Mr Johnson stated uh make no mistake about it uh we're here Seeking Justice on behalf of this month now uh what happened to her should not have happened it's done that for doing her job on a day in question of September 6th I assigned duties and she was approached by people who are taking it was taking an oath to protect and serve the citizens of Cumberland County and Fayetteville North Carolina they did the exact opposite they approached her on private property uh questioned her uh she gave them her information identify information she gave her her name that's all she she wasn't required to do that but she did it uh that wasn't good enough they wanted identification you know some people say you know walk from a long time ago they wanted slave papers you need to show who you are but she identified as you were to him that wasn't good enough you can see Jolana the size of the Lana she's never been in trouble they've demanded her ID and she refused well in her right because North Carolina is not a search a stop in the identified state uh that's been clearly established here in the state of North Carolina and she was under no duty to identify herself uh let alone give ID but she refused to give the identification they demanded for her to get out of the vehicle uh you can see her uh her cell phone footage uh where they took out a vehicle and you can see later on today once his video released other things that happened to miss jolanda down loud Miss Dunlap was traumatized uh in this matter she she uh threw up on herself uh she wouldn't she would have be given the the the difference of being loud to uh to finish what was going on with her physically because they was interested to abuse Force opposed to use compassion to have discussion and taught them this Dunlap opposed to usually abuse abuse and Powers I say this all over and over again no Shield badge or start give you any right to break the law it doesn't matter it does not matter who you are what or where you at you have to fall along if you are where the bed she'll start doesn't matter Miss Dunlap has suffered significantly and it's matters she's going to speak she's going to talk about what transpired I want to be very clear what you understand this this is not a case of somebody's buried in the ground this is not the case we had in Elizabeth City with Andrew Brown or or Brandon combs in Concord we can go on and on this names but this is the type of case where these things start and that's how it happened police escalation for people coming because I firmly believe that if she was a different color this would never happen she might be given a difference so we're going to speak to it we're going to call out for what it is people say oh you're playing a race car Javier Cornell well hell that's the car you're giving us a play that's what happened here until you show what's different of why you decided to take a 22 year old with 110 pounds a Jacker and throw up against the clock and though she was a hearted Criminal you need to speak to it and we asked for the police department Gina Hawkins uh the Fayetteville Police Department just speak to this matter what is she's going to do to these officers and she gonna slap him on the wrist and put him back on the street just something else happen because if if you don't address it now the next press conference you're gonna have it's gonna be a press conference some one of these officers have done harm to somebody that they're not standing here to have a discussion so with that being said I'm gonna let Miss uh Dunlap come up and address and we're going to take some questions um okay all right and and I will I will come back and give you the specific claims in the lawsuit uh once you finish let's have here finishing up come through that um I really just want to speak up for people who can't speak up for themselves um also for the people who things happen like this to them and they don't say anything to nobody and you don't tell anybody and I just want to make it clear that you you have to speak up for yourself you have to you have to demand respect whether they wear a badge or whether they're just in regular clothes and if you're wearing that badge if you're wearing a uniform then you're supposed to protect and serve not harm innocent people my name is Javier de janon and I am with Johnson Nicholson with Mr Cardinal Johnson and I want to Echo a bit what Harry Daniels was saying about the things that happen if something would have gone different because in Fayetteville there is a name there is a black woman who was killed and we say her name Jada Johnson we also see the names of other people who were attacked by police in Fayetteville Justin Livesey Zachary Brown Robert Edwards Brandon McCormick and now we say jalana Dunlap Banks this is not an issue of a couple Bad Apples because we're seeing that the tree is rotten we are seeing that the roots are rotten and so when we demand Justice For Miss jelana we demand Justice for these other people too and for the other black and brown people in Fayetteville who might suffer when they meet a police again and again and again we'll now open it to questions sure uh the case number of the following is 522 Chicago cv00425 uh FL uh the council the Council of this matter uh if multiple accounts here that I will read the council for you I do apologize I'm not doing it before count one deprivation of civil rights my false arrests unlawful seizure uh those are claims against defendant officers including James John does as I stated before how many how many officers about five or six officers for jalani who did nothing wrong and those other officers stood about that's because uh failure to intervene that is a violation as well in the Civil Rights issues welfare intervention once we identify those officers let it be known we're going to manage complaint and bring you and bring a lawsuit against those officers as well as he said it's more than just one bad apple um count two is deprivation civil rights by interference or retaliations against freedom of speech as you can see Mitch Dunlap was recorded on the phone they
