you know people would say that we we sell food what i would tell you is we solve problems we are a business that sells food but the problem customers are really looking for is how in their busy lives can they get the food that they want at a very very high quality delivered to their home to save them time so i think that we are a food business but we solve problems for people's busy lives yeah um we make great food easy to get that's really that's what we're known for and it's really about the fresh food and then the innovation or the creativity that we have in the rest of the store yeah fresh direct has a long history of uh delivering produce items and meat items and grocery items to our customers throughout the tri-state area what's really amazing about our plant here and how we deliver to our customers is how quickly things really do move through the system you know you would think that there's a place that can move faster than fresh direct but the way an apple moves through nine miles of conveyor belts is just phenomenal all right there's nothing faster than fresh towering we typically will take a fair number of our deliveries direct from our suppliers whether that's a farmer or a fisherman or others what we celebrate quite a bit is the fact that we get to bring in and try things that are local and new and different and it allows us a chance to kind of play with items that perhaps you wouldn't see elsewhere so it's the things that people have read about it's the things that they've seen in the local restaurant and then when you buy something from us in our produce area we don't just sell you a grape we sell you a cotton candy grape so we sell you a varietal of a grape you go into a grocery store and you're just gonna see grapes it doesn't talk about where it's from we do a lot of visits to the farms and visit with our vendors ratoul and our produce team he he has a passion for indian mangoes he literally hunted the indian mango down and brought it back to us they said there's always a push to think about the quality and then not only that but how do we intersect that quality into the food we're making here too we prepare our stuff right here so we make our soups we cut meat to oil and lunch meat to order we have a very robust manufacturing operation that does a lot of made to order and made to sell items which i think is very unique in the market fresh direct was ahead of the game it always is ahead of the game it helped me understand where your food comes from and the relationship from farm to table and i think it's just a great place to try different things to stay ahead of trends frankly a lot of the trends come out of the great kitchens and chefs and restaurants we have here i think food is just woven into the fabric of the city there are so many just cool cultures and people different views about what great food is or what it should be there's a little bit of arrogance just you know in in the whole lifestyle that we lead here and that's that's probably our secret sauce but you know it's it's about the resiliency of new york new yorkers their attitude um and they they love telling you that they have something that somebody else doesn't we think we have a very unique you know high quality product great assortment for our customers and so we believe that we are really what the the future will be for shoppers we serve that right and we're embedded in in our communities i think that that's what we do when we service new york i think that's what they expect of us
