can your business have a physical address that's different from its mailing address this is sam bryant from bryant taylor law where we help business owners protect legacies they work so hard to build the answer is yes you can have a different mailing address for your business that's separate or different from its physical address the main purpose of the mailing address is to really notify the state of where you want your business mail sent for correspondences or just as a a practical matter for anyone looking to send your business mail the physical address is an indication of where your business is going to be it's where it's going to be its primary source of operations so this becomes relevant when it comes to your business licenses or any state licenses that may apply so because there's different counties in different cities that have different requirements so for example if your business if your business is located in city a its physical address you may need a business license in that city so you would want your state filings to reflect a physical address in that city so that you can get that license but that doesn't necessarily mean that the mailing address of your business has to match or has to be in that same city your mailing address can be anywhere where you as the business owner is available to actually receive mail or correspondence so you don't have to have them be the same in many instances they are the same because the place where your business is primarily operating is also the same place where you receive your meal but if they are going to be different uh you're more than you are more than welcome to use a different mailing address as separate from your business's physical address and in reality your mailing address doesn't even have to be in the same state as the registration of your business where it's really important for you to have the same address in the same state of the registration is the registered address so there's a difference between the mailing address the physical address and the mailing address the physical address is the same as the principal place of business the mailing address is where you receive mail and the registered address is the address of your registered agent in some cases all three of all three of those addresses can be the same but in many cases they are different so for the purposes of this video i just want to emphasize that if you do have a business with a principal place of business and a physical address you don't have to have that same address listed as your mailing address especially if you prefer to receive the mail from the business in a separate location than the physical address hope you found that video helpful we have plenty more information and plenty more videos on how to protect your business and in case you want to speak to a business attorney in florida we have our contact information in the description below thank you

hey guys this is robert with malaya law we help entrepreneurs just like you start their businesses without dealing with the complicated legal forms we are also the number one highest rated business law firm for entrepreneurs with more than fifteen hundred five-star google reviews today we are going to talk about common business address mistakes that many of our clients make when trying to register their llcs in the united states many of our clients who try to register their business themselves make mistakes when providing the state with a business address and an address for the registered agent our clients also ask us whether they can use their home address as the business address and whether they can use the registered agent address as the business address first let's discuss using your home address as the business address technically any business owner can use his or her home address when filing with the state however it is important to note that in most states when you use your home address it is going to be listed on the state's website and will become public record this is not the case in all states such as wyoming but a majority of states will list the business address on the website so if you're just starting out and you're considering using your home address as your business address it is important to think about whether you want your address being listed on the state's website for other people to see the second thing you may be considering is opening a po box to be the business address this is not a bad idea and works in many states however some states will not allow you to use a po box as the registered business address so before opening up the po box it is important to make sure that your state permits the use of a po box as the business address using a po box as the business address will likely also raise issues when obtaining your ein number from the irs because the irs oftentimes does not permit po boxes you should also avoid a po box because it does not look very credible to your clients or customers and will make them think that you're going to disappear and run off with their money so ultimately using your home address or a po box are not ideal options you should think long and hard before you decide to use your home address as your business address because this is going to be public information and many new business owners may not want this to be publicly available to their customers or clients so this brings me to the next two choices that you have the first is to rent office space and pay rent for a physical space this is a great option if you're a business owner that must run from a physical location and you need office space to meet with clients store inventory or host events however if you are a business owner that can operate his or her business from home then i think that you should strongly consider obtaining a virtual business address there are several companies out there that you can provide you that can provide you with a business address in any state for a low fee these companies will not only provide you with a business address but they will also collect mail for you scan it and email it to you some of them will even forward the physical mail to your designated mailing address so that you don't have to go pick it up prices for these services started around ten dollars per month and many of these companies also provide phone services with virtual receptionists and the ability to rent an office by the hour when you need one i believe that this is oftentimes the most cost effective and safe approach for new business owners who need to look more official by having a legitimate legitimate business address and also save costs by not having to rent office space for no reason it is important to think long and hard about whether you want to use your home address in the beginning stages of your business or whether you prefer to protect your privacy and go with a virtual address or rent office space so overall if you're an entrepreneur looking to register your business in the us or you have any questions regarding the address to put on the application then click on the link below to schedule a free consultation with us during the phone call we will be able to determine what business entity and tax election is best for you and we will handle all of the complicated paperwork for you so that you can focus on growing your business so go ahead and click the link below and also if you have any questions just post them in the comments below and my team and i will try to get to them as soon as possible see you guys in the next video
